Are you thinking about a career in engineering? The British Engines engineering apprenticeship could be the perfect way to kick-start your career.
Working alongside our professional engineers in one of eight businesses across the group, our unique engineering apprenticeship provides hands-on experience in a variety of engineering disciplines, including manufacturing, maintenance, fitting, assembly & test, and quality.
If successful, you will spend 20 weeks at the TDR Training School in Long Benton, or at the South Tyneside Marine School in South Shields, before joining one of the businesses within the group. From there, you will spend four days per week in the business whilst attending college one day per week for a total of four years.
During your apprenticeship, you will have access to exciting new opportunities and experiences alongside invaluable support and feedback from our expert team, helping you to grow and improve as you progress through your training. You will also be paid full time, including time spent at college, and have access to our extensive range of employee benefits.

On completion of your apprenticeship, you will receive recognised National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) in your chosen discipline through Tyne Metropolitan College, which in the case of our manufacturing apprenticeship, would include:
- Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations
- Level 3 Diploma in Machining
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing
Depending on suitability and business needs, you may also have the option to undertake a Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Engineering, potentially followed by a Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) in General Engineering.
After completing your apprenticeship, you could be offered permanent employment with one of the group’s businesses. To date, 98% of our apprentices have been offered full-time employment, with many working their way up to senior management positions. You may also have the opportunity to progress towards a foundation, bachelors or master’s degree in engineering, opening up even more career options within the company.
