Two apprentices from British Engines have been shortlisted for a prestigious award in the EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards.
Gary Youngs, 24, final year apprentice at Rotary Power and Sunny Howd, 17, first year apprentice at Stephenson Gobin have both been shortlisted by the judging panel to go through to the next stage of the judging process.
Both apprentices will attend an interview this week to showcase evidence of their training and education in the form of logbooks and college reports and a piece of their own work. The judges will be looking at both their educational and technical experience, their involvement in projects or significant contributions they have made to employer projects.
Gary and Sunny will find out if they have won the regional title at a ceremony at the Pavilions of Harrogate on 19 November 2015. If successful, they will then go on to compete with other regional winners from across the UK for the national title. This will be announced at an awards gala dinner in London in February next year.
Gary Youngs, apprentice at British Engines, says: “I am really pleased to be shortlisted for this award – I’ve met lots of great apprentices who are dedicated, hard-working and inspirational, so I’m really honoured to have made it through this far.
“The recognition means a lot to me, but more importantly I’m on a career path that I enjoy and where my achievements are being valued. If I can do this then others can too, and I hope it makes other young people think seriously about becoming an apprentice too.”
