The role

 

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will oversee projects from appointment at contract review stage through to handover to quality control, specifically focused on, but not limited to, the creation of sound manufacturing methodology; this is to ensure the most effective route through the machine shop.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

  • Ensure all drawing and customer requirements are captured, understood and carried through into the manufacturing method
  • Ensure CNC programs are produced offline and verified by use of NC code verification software to run right first time when released to the shop floor
  • Have a clear focus on ensuring that the manufacturing method chosen is capable of producing the product in the as sold hours, highlighting any instances where this is not deemed achievable
  • Ensure that any fixturing or tooling required is designed and/or purchased in line with production requirements
  • Provide the correct level of supporting documentation to ensure the successful manufacture of the product
  • Communicate with operational management and shop floor personnel to ensure the manufacturing method is fully understood
  • Utilise time on the shop floor to support manufacture of the product; ensuring machining strategies are being utilised effectively
  • Liaise with customers when required, travelling where applicable
  • Liaise with tooling suppliers to ensure that the business is utilising the latest technology available completing off site visits and training
  • Support and train other members of the department
  • Develop standard operating procedures for core components and processes

 

Who we’re looking for

 

To apply, we ask that you have knowledge of production processes and systems and experience of EdgeCam or Siemens NX as well as Vericut or similar software would be advantageous. Experience of 5-axis machining and/or programming would also be advantageous.

 

Ideally you will have an apprenticeship certificate in a relevant engineering discipline or an HNC in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

 

Experience of working in one or more of the following sectors; nuclear (civil and defence) MOD and aerospace with ability to produce 3D models and 2D drafting would be advantageous.

 

Proficient in the use of CAM software, competent in interpreting drawing and producing manufacturing, you will possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to interface with customers effectively.

 

You must be able to demonstrate a positive, innovative and motivated approach to your work combined with an ability to work under pressure within time constraints, as part of a team and on your own initiative.

 

This position will be on a full time, permanent basis, working dayshift 37 hours per week.
