Below you will find some of the most frequently asked questions from previous graduates looking to find out more about the British Engines graduate scheme.

Are you a recent graduate? If you can’t find the correct answer in our FAQ section, either contact us here or do not hesitate to give one of our recruitment consultants a call on +44 (0) 191 204 3600.

  • Will you support my formal academic and professional development?

Absolutely. All of our programmes lead to professional accreditations and we help every graduate we recruit to achieve the necessary qualifications they need to succeed.

  • I'm thinking of taking a year out after university. Can I delay my start with you?

We would not normally agree to this. We would encourage anyone who chose to take a year out following graduation, to apply to us towards the end of that year, for the next intake.

  • Do you take non-engineers on the graduate engineering programmes?

This would be unlikely due to the complexity and nature of our processes and products. We would require an individual to have degree level knowledge of the engineering specialisation.

  • Can I make more than one application?

Yes, if there is more than one position in your discipline advertised you may apply more than once. Likewise if more than one of our businesses are recruiting within your degree discipline, you may apply.

  • When will I start?

The Graduate scheme begins early September. You will receive a start date in your job offer pack.

  • What hours will I be working?

35 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

  • Where will I be located?

Your location would depend upon the position you have been successful in applying for. Whilst we do, on occasion, get our Graduate pool together, they remain within their particular business unit for the duration of the programme. However, you will be based at one of the British Engines companies within the North East.

  • Will I get feedback on how well I've performed?

Yes. All of our Graduate programmes have ongoing assessments to ensure the skills development meets the needs of the department and the business. Feedback will be both formal and informal with an annual Appraisal Scheme to keep every individual aware of their performance and ongoing objectives.

  • What's the closing date for applications?

Please refer to the job listing on the careers website. To avoid disappointment we recommend you apply sooner rather than later.
