Our industrial placement scheme provides the opportunity for you to gain first hand work experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment where you can extend your knowledge of your chosen field and undertake activities to develop your technical understanding. Best of all a placement provides you with real life material to support your dissertation.
You will be exposed to a number of different business areas building commercial skills and a fundamental grounding of the engineering industry.
We offer year long industrial placements in the following subjects:
- Sales and Marketing
- Mechanical Engineering
Who can apply?
Anyone working towards a related engineering or business degree currently attaining a minimum of a 2:1 grade. Timings vary, but year-long placements are most likely to start in August or September.

The British Engines placement scheme gives students the chance to learn a lot about the way we work to help you to decide whether a career in your chosen field is the right choice for you. It remains the best way to strengthen your application for our graduate programme.
You should be reliable, have a clear passion for business, a good academic track record and of course be a great team player.
Any undergraduate student is welcome to apply. You just need to be available for one year of full time work (industrial placement or approved gap year).
We also provide a range of short term paid summer placements for students across a number of departments, which are designed to give you a taste of working life here at British Engines.
During summer placements you will be assigned a mentor and be working within a team on real life business projects, giving you the opportunity to learn new skills and develop those you already have.
Summer placements can last up to three months depending on your requirements and the needs of the business.
