The British Engines Community Fund provides funding to local charities, youth and community groups that need support to keep up their good work.

Each year, our employees have the chance to nominate a cause to receive funding, allowing us to support initiatives that are close to their hearts.

Last year, we donated over £11,000 to support a wide range of projects. From providing equipment to children at local sports clubs, to helping students deliver disability awareness training to local employers.

Since 2022, we have sponsored a teacher who provides technical education at schools in disadvantaged areas of the North East. We hope the scheme introduces more children to engineering subjects, opening up and improving their future career prospects.

Since 2008, group company, Michell Bearings India has sponsored two local schools in India, supporting the development of the local community in Bangalore. The sponsorship has helped the schools to carry out repairs, build extra classrooms and create new facilities, including a computer room and outdoor play equipment. We also provide funding for an English and IT teacher!

In partnership with the Greggs Foundation, we sponsor breakfast clubs at two local schools to help the children get a nutritious start to their day. The funding helps each school run a free, daily breakfast club by providing fresh bread and a grant to help with running costs.

To celebrate our 100 year anniversary, we asked children at our breakfast clubs to design posters showing what the world might look like in 100 years’ time. A winner from each school was chosen, each receiving a Kindle for kids and Greggs vouchers!

Each Christmas, we come together to donate food, toys and money to local food banks as part of Christmas Jumper Day.

For the last three years, these donations have been boosted by an annual donation of £10,000 from the British Engines Group, to help support disadvantaged people in the local area.

We believe it’s important to support those who protect our nation. That’s why we are proud to sponsor the Armed Forces Covenant, which helps members of the armed forces community to access discounted services as well as support with education, wellbeing, home ownership, starting a new career, healthcare and financial assistance.

We play an active role in the Reserve Forces and Cadets by supporting military reservists who work for us. We are also a Bronze Award holder on the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, which recognises support from UK employers for defence personnel.

We work with local education providers to encourage students to consider a career in engineering. As part of this, we organise school visits where our employees help students to gain an understanding of the opportunities available to them in engineering.

In 2021, we donated £100,000 to the TDR Trust to boost STEM training in the North East. The donation was used to improve TDR’s training facilities, including the development of a STEM conference centre, and to support the trust’s school programmes which are designed to engage young people in STEM activities.
